    10 hour Wrecking Trip Yesterday.

only 5 lads booked on so i decided to have a go myself,

Fishing started of great with some nice size Cod taking the shads, then after an hour the wind and tide increased and fishing slowed down and became hard work.

then after a couple of hours the fishing picked up a bit with a few more cod, ling and some massive whiting.

from the forecast the day before we were all prepared for a massive downpour which never came. and we had sunshine most of the day and a calm sea.

    Report on-board Spot On!

July has again been a great month for the weather so far and with the wrecking still going strong Spot On has been finding some great fish with plenty of Cod, Pollock, Ling and Bass as the main target specices which the anglers have been enjoying on recent trips.

Surprised to see sightings of a leaping shark, a whale and loads of sunfish is great to see and fishing for these new speices excpet the whale is good fun and Sharking if we can find mackerel will be at the end of this month.

Thanks to the anglers for supporting Spot On and making this year brilliant and with the 2015 diary already filling up looks set to continue for the future, lets hope the great quality of fish continue, all in all i can not complain with the new boat being awesome and every angler who joins us on board amazed by its speed, space and comfort and they just love it, plus it means so much more fishing time its more time to grab that chance of cathing a fish of a lifetime from Brixham and as you can see the 2014 catches are of high quality and quantity.

Pictured is another charter boat UK record: The biggest sunfish seen this year.

    Report on-board Incentive

The general bottom fishing has remained very good with large amounts of codling whiting dabs huss gurnards coming up. The tope have started to show over the last couple of weeks inshore which is good sport. The mackerel fishing is still sporadic, some days seeing ample mackerel for bait and to take home and other days its a struggle to get some for bait. i think this has been the case for many places round the country.

  • 16/07/2014 Fishing Report by Sam Cumming on Silver Spray II (Poole, Dorset)

16 Jul 2014 by Sam Cumming

    Report on-board Silver Spray II

It’s been back to back trips down here in Poole for the last month; the weather has been faultless with only a few days rest taken due to the odd puff of wind. It’s that time of year now where everything is in full swing and we are spoilt for choice as to what we fish for. The only thing that aren’t playing ball, as I’m sure many other ports are experiencing round the country, are the mackerel. Some days we are spending up to 2 hours feathering to get enough to go bass fishing for a few hours. There seems to be an abundance of small scad out on the sand in Poole Bay which is helping fill the gap when we want to go fishing with live baits. The one place mackerel have been in abundance for me this year is over in Alderney, all around the Island and down on the fishing grounds we have no trouble getting bait. In early July Graham Kent and his mates did a 5-day trip over to the rock with Silver Spray II and had a brilliant time. Rather than just sticking on the flats for 3 days straight we tried our hand at a bit of everything and we were rewarded with a variety of species including tope, bull huss, conger, bass, turbot, brill, cod, ling, pollock to name but a few. The top fish of the trip for me was Andrew Dunne’s turbot of 20lb 4oz. A brilliant turbot by anyone’s standards made even better by the fact he caught it on bass gear whilst we were drifting at 4 knots in over 100 feet of water. The fish gave a fight like I’ve never seen from a flattie before and took over 10 minutes to get to the boat appearing and then disappearing from view several times in the process. Alderney is certainly renowned for being a destination where anglers can catch themselves some monster fish and not many anglers have spent as much time hunting one down in that area as my Dad, Andy Cumming. On a recent trip to the Island with his Wife for some golf and relaxation he somehow managed to sneak in an afternoon on the banks onboard Silver Spray I. After a good day on the flats he was just packing his gear up when his Diawa Saltist 12-20 rod bent over the rail with a cracking bite. After a struggle lasting around 15 minutes Andy’s wife Alison netted a colossal turbot which I weighed for him back in Brae harbour at 31lb 8oz. I’ve seen god knows how many fish of all shapes and sizes on my travels in commercial and charter fishing but I have never seen anything of that enormity, a true fish of a life time.

  • 07/2014 Fishing Report by Rich Cope on Mistress (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

    Jul 2014 by Rich Cope

    Report on-board Mistress

Fishing the last week has been up and down, we have seen some cracking fish boated, towards the end of the festival Keith Bywater from Rotherham hooked something very good, and the way it was stripping line and lunging I had an incling it was a Halibut from the start, we set the drag fairly light as keith fought with is fish.

I was hoping for a big one, but not this time sadly, i went 15lb on the boat scales, not a monster but equally a fish of a lifetime as not many are caught. well done Keith!

The spring tides we have just experienced (biggest of the year) have given mixed results with us having to work hard for our fish, some days better than others, the better anglers still leaving with decent bags. never the less still finding a few for the rest of the lads. It should improve as the tides ease again
