    Report on-board White Maiden II

A lovely week (includin four Calshot Lifeboat Launches) was followed by a miserable weekend which looked OK for the Saturday Trident SAC crew. In reality the mist, drizzle and a building sea followed by proper rain and a lot of voracious dogfish made for a hard day for the keen regulars. It wasn't cold though and we were in the right places and you certainly can't catch anything sat at home! Bob managed to break through the dogfish for a decent Spotted Ray but there were far too many dogfish on the Ray marks.

A possible excuse for not catching, I believe, is that in a sloppy sea and shallow water (less than 45') the waves that bang the hulls increases the scare zone around the boat. Up-tiding is easy with long rods and fixed spool reels and is the best way to get out the scare zone. Otherwise working a very light lead well down tide is good. Or you could add a balloon to float your bait down tide, then jerk it free but in my opinion that can't be good for the environment and is basically littering the sea. Maybe a bit of wood will be more environmentally friendly (I'm serious about that).

Yesterday John Skeggs was on an early start and went 9 miles but as the tide and sea built they came back inside too. Out deep were Spurrs, Blondes and Congers! I'm looking forward to testing these banks on Thursday as we have a small tide and the promise of some decent weather. I still have 4 spaces at £50pp

    Report on-board TROT- ON

First day of w.c.s.a spring festival 2014

Hi all were glad to report that the fishing yesterday had picked up significantly since the last time we were out.
We had a group of lads on from Wakefield who were all about having a good laff with friends
Thankfully the fishing was decent enuff considering the time of year, tides, water clarity
For the day we ended up with about 45-50 fish onboard codling up to 5lb a ling that we weighed at 7-8lb on boat and would of also have been in the running for 2nd place in the daily prize unfortunately one of the lads gutted the fish which dropped it alot of weight
Still the lads were happy with what they caught
There is still places available on trot-on 1+2 due to cancelled people if interested please use contact details attached thank you for reading

  • 04/2014 Fishing Report by Bob Marshall on Duke IV (Ramsgate, Kent)

    Apr 2014 by Bob Marshall

    Report on-board Duke IV

Great sport with the Smoothounds now with Marcs group landing l5 last Saturday, Marcins group today had Hounds, Skate, Gurnard & chunky Whiting The Hounds have a particular taste for peeler crab bait, although we have been catching them on lug, herring and squid so the early birds are hungry and feeding on anything that's going!
Plenty of Skate around now with a good chance of large catches, herring remains the bait of choice but a good chunk of squid often works well.
A few Bass being landed so hopefully more on the way, lug a good bait with hokkies and feathers good when the water clears. We are gearing up for the wreck fishing now with space available on 24th April.
This time of year can be seen as the pinnacle time for fishing with new fish arriving all the time whilst still plenty of quality Whiting and Codling still around!
Pic shows Peter with a tasty Gurnard
    Roll on summer!!!
    Tight lines Bob Duke IV

  • 05/04/2014 Fishing Report by Mick Leonard on Avante (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

5 Apr 2014 by Mick Leonard

    Report on-board Avante

Well it's the start of the first of our boat fishing festivals here in Whitby and the weather looks settled at the moment which can be a problem this time of the year anglers on the avante will be looking for the big one today and I will send another report of results later this week
Over the years I have found large pollock can be found on some of the wrecks early in the season which give good sport as well as good eating the fishing has been great inshore lately and no doubt some days during the festival we will try a bit of uptiding on the better tides which hopefully will produce some Codlings but usually the type of angler who enters a one fish takes all competition prefers the wrecks and ground with big baits hoping to land that £1000 cash prize lets hope we can give a good show today the first day it's always great to get in the daily prizes from the off good luck to everyone especially to my anglers who continue to support me and avante and Whitby tight lines
