    Report on-board High Flyer 2

Thought i better update the situation, as so many trips have been cancelled due to our lovely english weather!Having cancelled the lads again for tomorrow (sat 15th) Feb , hoping to get out Sunday 16th, forcast not too bad. Been keeping up to date with the beach anglers, thank you all for your emails, seems quite a few small codling have appeared this week hopefully the start of a run about time too. The offshore liners when the odd day has allowed have started getting few bass along with skate and reports of millions of dogs! The warm weather this winter has affected our cod fishing but 2 brightsides. Firstly lots of un caught fish out there great for stocks and breeding plus with the sea temperatures possible early skate and dogs next month on the inshore marks. This year we have been asked to arrange some specialist trips ie tope and bass, will email our database so if your not on, send your email address to us for information , basically you get it before the website. So hopefully this weather will start breaking, this strong SW jetstream cant last forever. If we get our spring codling run this year it should prove to be good hopefully, we will be doing a bit of distance to the banks if weather allows in search of those skate and bigger cod. Would be pleased to see you, dont forget already days booked up for summer wrecking with best dates going fast, dont leave it as they will be gone.Wherever your fishing beach or boat ,tight lines from the High Flyer.

  • 13/02/2014 Fishing Report by Sam Cumming on Silver Spray II (Poole, Dorset)

13 Feb 2014 by Sam Cumming

    Report on-board Silver Spray II

I’m sure you won’t be overly shocked to hear I haven’t been out much since my last monthly report, a grand total of 2 trips as it happens. Both of which saw us leave port at first light and return early to make the most of short windows in the terrible weather we have been having. What we lacked in weather we certainly made up for in spur dogs as anglers Kevin Griffiths and Roger Clarke landed the 2 biggest spur dogs I have ever seen on the same trip. The pair were using large mackerel cut baits on single hook flowing traces of 100lb mono. After sporting fights the fish were safely brought onboard and weighed in at 22lb 4oz and 25lb 8oz respectively for Kevin and Roger. Both fish were heavily pregnant with pups and were returned alive and kicking after a couple of minutes. Roger’s fish would have beaten the current British Record for a boat caught spur dog had we brought it ashore, I’ve had a couple of different reports of the record size but it would have beaten it by at least a pound. Both days produced plenty of blonde rays as well up into the mid twenties along with a handful of bull huss and congers to keep rod tips bouncing. Let’s hope we get all the bad weather out of the way now so we can enjoy a nice summer again!!

  • 13/02/2014 Fishing Report by TERRY BATT on Vanishing Point-2 (Bradwell Marina, Essex)

13 Feb 2014 by TERRY BATT

    Report on-board Vanishing Point-2

Delay for the Home Coming of Vanishing Point-2 to Bradwell Essex

Hi guys, Just a quick up-date on Vanishing Point-2’s arrival in our home port of Bradwell Essex..!!
Due to the huge Atlantic storms we are experiencing at the moment, with no sign of a let up in sight, it now looks as though VP-2 will not now arrive until early to mid-April, sorry about that!! But we have no control over the weather, and Vanishing Point is too big to transport by road, (shame really)..
A huge thank you to all of you who have been inundating us with phone calls, not only too try and book our new boat, but kindly phoning to see how Nicola & I are keeping, which is really kind off you all, which shows to us, you’re not just our customers, but our friends, which is very special to us both.
Ok…! With the Walton’s bit out of the way…lol we hope to start taking your booking from April onwards, but with the delays in getting VP-2 home to Essex because of weather, you can now understand why I was reluctant to take your booking back in January, because I kind of thought the weather would play a major role in getting her back from the Irish sea…
    See you all very soon
    Terry & Nicola…… Tight Lines!!!!!!

    Report on-board Discovery

    11/02/2014 Dave and Chris crew.
We left the marina at 8am in search of Cod the lads where all keen to get started i explained that we had had a great day the day before and hoped it was as good for them ,Well it was i asked if any one had ever used a uptide rod before with only one hand going up i selected another as well and set him up to show him how to uptide his name was mike so we rigged all the other lads up and got them fishing and then went back to Mike who had stood by waiting to fish, i explained the principles of up tiding to him and gave him a demo how to present his bait 15 mins later he had a knock and landed a 7lbs 3 oz Cod , by this time we had lost 3 people to the sea sickness bug.we dont usually have a problem with this but later found out a couple of jugs of wine and 6 pints of beer the night before a fishing trip is not good for your stomach or having a beer at 9.30 in the morning, Back to the fishing the lads recovered as the day went on and managed to bag 10 cod between 3lbs and 7lbs 3oz the banter flowed all day a good day was had by all
    cheers lads

    Report on-board Shy-Torque III

    Hi lads,
Just a short note to let you all know where we are with the boats re-fit.
We had to wait a bit longer than anticipated for the new engines, however they are now sat back in the boat, set up, primed and ready to go.
I do now have to wait for my electrician ( and good family friend ) John Wilcock to return from his trip to Burma.
He is completely re-wiring her from the engine harness's and looms back to the wheelhouse.
He is due back on the 3rd March and has told me that he has 3-4 days work with the re-wire job. Consequently we are now looking at a re-launch date around the 2nd week in March.
I can only apologise for the unforseen extra time out of the water, but at the end of the day the boat will be 100% tip top for the start of the season (hopefully!!)
We do still have the use of my mates boat as we speak so if you see a window in the weather and fancy a run off please give me a ring.
    Cheers for now
    Rich
