    Report on-board Mistress

Following a successful day fishing the reefs here at Whitby on Sunday, taking a good few fish in to double figures, the best being 14lb 8oz, We had an evening trip booked with one of my regular anglers and his family. Marks kids are only young so to start with i suggested we have a crack at the uptiding to start with before going offshore for a few mackerel, seeing as I caught a few codlings from the shore the other night as well as getting plenty of bites.

We got bites withing a few minutes of settling into anchor, and took several codling around 40cm in length, then young Sam got a better bite which resulted in a nice codling which took the boat scales to 4lb 12oz, we got a few more fish, then decided to head for a few Mackerel to finish the session with.

All in all to say we only fished for around half an hour taking half a dozen codling was quite a good sign for the up coming uptiding season, which i believe will start early this year.

We are currently experiencing a big northerly & when it dies down and we get back to sea on Thursday I think we will get fish uptiding. I currently have no one booked on and only need three people to make it viable for the day, if you fancy having ago at some early season inshore codling, give me a buzz on 07977 436 903

    cheers

    Rich

  • 08/2013 Fishing Report by Kevin McKie on Size Matters (Craobh Haven, Argyll & Bute)

    Aug 2013 by Kevin McKie

    Report on-board Size Matters

    August 2013

Species caught: Dab, Dogfish, Gurnard (Red, Tub & Gray), Huss, Mackerel, Poor Cod, Pouting, Sprat, Thornback Ray, Weaver and Whiting.

August was a slow month for Brigand due to Kev being on Holiday for the first two weeks, fishing for big Tuna in Canada. The weather also played a part, with the Mackerel being spread out in small shoals making them hard to find. Though once located, they were a decent size of 1lb to 2lb.

From August through to early October is a good time to catch big lone Tope but not many people fish for them. Lets hope the weather settles for September so we can get out for the last of the summer fishing.

    Notable Charters:

On the 27th we hooked into a big fish, had it on for 5 minutes and could not stop it before it bit through 150lb mono. It would have to be a very big Tope to have done that, or it could have been a Porbeagle Shark. A similar thing happened to Kev last September, which suggests there are some very big fish out there this time of year but we won’t know what until we land one. From now on we will be using wire traces which will give us a better chance of landing one.

On the 28th, 7 members of Bold Sea Angling Club booked a charter and caught 18 Bullhuss up to 11lb and a Thornback Ray of 9lb. Also caught were Tub Gurnard, Dabs, Whiting, Mackerel and Dogfish.

All fish caught were returned to the water alive.

  • 08/09/2013 Fishing Report by Roger Phillips on Che Sara Sara (Newquay, Cornwall)

    Report on-board Che Sara Sara

Lumpy old start to the day punching out through the waves to the 12 mile reef mark. The state of the tide and wind produced a lovely slow drift which soon had us into some nice pollock. The action was steady and at the end of the day we had well over 100 pollock 3lb to 8lb, 1 nice cod 8lb we dont see these very often, gurnard, ling and wrasse. Plenty of mackeral still about nice small bait size which were used to entise the pollock as well as sand eel, shads and rubber eels of various colours. The pollock were being caught on the first few turns and also maybe as far as 30 to 40 turns up good sport on light tackle very enjoyable day.

    Report on-board Supanova II

    Well well well...........

What a summer we are having!!! the wind just doesn't blow and the suns out! Loving it!

Just 2 lost days in the whole of August which for the last few years has been unheard of.

August historically can be a funny month with the fishing and this year proved to be one of those funny months.
Some goof]d fishing inshore with great Plaice fishing and bream along with some lovely undulates and Blondes but all this has been on the small tides. As soon as the tides have built the excitement grows for better Bream and Bass, well unfortunately throughout August apart from the odd Day this just didn't happen.

Some interesting days on this years Conger Comp with numbers greatly reduced on all boats than previous years. Maybe the cold winter is to blame???? This years winning eel was a cracker of 82lb with Supanova's best of 68lb falling to Phil Rogers.

The next neap tides after the conger comp saw us venture off to find some more congers with again mixed results on various wrecks, the highlight of this trip however was some amazing Bream fishing with around 30 fish landed and all but 2 fish were over 3lb, with the best of 4lb 14oz falling to Phil Dolan (pictured).

September sees competition time in weymouth so watch this space for updates.

Once again thanks to all who continue to support the port.

    Tight line,

    Lyle

  • 08/2013 Fishing Report by Gethyn Owen on My Way 2 (Holyhead, Isle of Anglesey)

    Aug 2013 by Gethyn Owen

    Report on-board My Way 2

In our free tackle give away with Tronixpro and World Sea Fishing Cheshire angler Jon Hudd was the August winner of a HTO rod & Daiwa reel combo.

Jon has fished aboard My Way a few times this year and on his trips in July and August always made a quick dash for the new HTO lure rods from Tronixpro, free to use aboard My Way. Offering excellent bite detection and extremely light sport, these rods are a must for all light tackle enthusiasts.

Baiting up with either fresh worm and Isome artificial worms as supplied by World Sea Fishing, Jon was able to tempt an array of fish from mini specie to hard fighting ballans whilst on the drift.

Anglers have taken up the challenge through both July and August and fished using either the HTO 25gram or 50gram rods, coupled together with Daiwa Megaforce fixed spool reels and braid. Wrasse and mini species are the main targets when using such extremely light outfits whilst afloat, even 8oz wrasse bend the rods and offer an exciting adrenalin rush for the captor.

We have another rod & reel combo available in September, you simply need to grab one of the rods and have a fish

  • 05/09/2013 Fishing Report by Paul Kilpatrick on Sea Otter 2 (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

5 Sep 2013 by Paul Kilpatrick

    Report on-board Sea Otter 2

Had all regular lads onboard yesterday with a good forcast the last one for a while by the look of things i decide to have a steam out the 20 mile the cod fishing at this time can be a little bit better out there than inshore around this time thats because its just alive with masses of food for the cod inshore and they can become a little bit picky the ling are in droves at the moment they feed like mad as the herring shoals have now arrived and just gorge themselves .

Steve with one of his cod some real quality fish about .
