    Report on-board Silver Spray II

Off to Cherbourg for the first time this year tomorrow. Cod starting to show up in numbers, few bass and plenty of pollock so should be a good trip fingers crossed. Awesome day on the place yesterday with plenty of 3lb+ fish hitting the deck the biggest at just under 5lb.Second Alderney trip was hampered by weather last week but we perseverred and it came good in the end.

  • 04/2013 Fishing Report by Glen Cairns on Valkyrie 6/8 (Gosport, Hampshire)

    Apr 2013 by Glen Cairns

    Report on-board Valkyrie 6/8

Sunday 21st April - Hayling - Valkyrie 6 (Zac Cairns)

The first wrecking trip for the club this year. The first trip with Zac at the helm.

At seven o'clock with ten members aboard and we headed out to the banks to try for a few mackerel.
The north side of the bank produced a few mackerel for bait, as did the south side but we only ended up with a dozen or so.
The next stop was a small wreck well inside french waters where we were soon into good sized pollack on sidewinders and storms of various colours.
After a few drifts that just produced pollack and the occasional pout the activity seemed to stir the ling into action as well so we tried using baits. The ling proved to be unfussy, as besides artificials, they took fresh and frozen mackerel as well as cuttle and squid.
Not wanting to take too much from one wreck we then went off to a larger one a few miles away where we had more pollack and ling and lost a lot of lures bravely trying for cod (unsuccessfully).
The fourth stop was just a couple of drifts over another wreck which also had pollack and ling and then we headed back toward Hayling.

Some of us opted to just gut their fish on the way in, others also removed their heads as well, and some actually filleted theirs.

A great trip. Well done Zac!. A flat sea, little wind, a bit of sun and everybody had ling (up to 22lb) and most had pollack (up to 15lb) to take home.

Biggest fish was a Nigel Cross's ling of 22lb and Roy Hebburn and Mick Doody shared the honours for most species with 4 each.

18 May 2013 by Ken Henley

    Report on-board Emma Louise

A great day out thanks to the efforts of skipper Mick and crewman Wayne. Mick put us on the fish with cod (40 plus), plaice (30 plus), dabs, pouting, whiting, red gurnard and mackerel being caught. Amongst a great many other fish, I had a 3lb 8oz (when weighed at home so probably larger when caught) plaice - a personal best! The weather was perfect, the company was great and there was plenty of tea / coffee, iced donuts, garlic bread and pasties thrown in. What more could you ask for? Thanks guys. Can't wait for the next time.

  • 18/05/2013 Fishing Report by Gary Flint on Discovery (Liverpool, Merseyside)

18 May 2013 by Gary Flint

    Report on-board Discovery

    18.05.2013
    Ross and The Lads,
We arrived at the marina at 5.40am for a 6am lockout with the intentions that we would head offshore and bottom fish, the forecast was for a bit ofwind but then dropping off,so we decided to play safe and head out of the mersey and up the rock and onto burbo bank which we did with a constant wind of 20 knots Wnw. So it was a bit sloppy but still fishable the lads caught plenty of dabs and a couple of flounder with in the hour we where out on the bank. The wind picked upto 27 kts on the way in we came in early and fished the river so as all of the lads could stand up and walk around we fished a mark in the river and caught Cod, Thornback rays, Flounders, Dabs and Whiting. The lesson learnt today is dont let lads come on the boat that have not been to bed and have been on the beer all night and day, as you know it ruins the day and ends up breaking toilet sinks and automatic air fresheners overall though a good bunch of lads well done Sam with the most species and well done Ross with a nice brace of codling

    see you soon lads.

  • 16/05/2013 Fishing Report by Rich Cope on Mistress (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

16 May 2013 by Rich Cope

    Report on-board Mistress

Another window in the weather yesterday saw us putting to sea. 6 lads took the boat on an all inclusive team building exercise.

The water is clearing all the time, but there doesnt seem to be the feed marks there that we normally get this time of year, it seems as though everything is running a bit late with the water temperature down on the same time last year following those dreadful easterly winds we had a while back.

we started out fishing some 5 miles offshore and took fish first drop, the lads steadily picked away taking a few fish
the better fishing came on the afternoon tide where we moved to one of my favourite wrecks where we finished the day on a high note having a mad hour!

The lads managed a respectable 30 to 40 codlings all on shads and sidewinders.

Now all we are waiting for is another break in the weather to get back at them!

picture are the lads with their fish

17 May 2013 by Rich Ward

    Report on-board Shy-Torque III

    16.05.2013.

This time of the year we really should be reporting on the fishing every day. But sadly it seems that the weather gods are still fighting each other up there and not dishing out any good stuff.

A window here and there is all we're getting at the moment.

A mixed group on the boat on Thursday.

I must admit I was full of high expectations after the last weekend with codling showing on the ground on the 5, 7 and 9 mile. Water clearing and all that...........

Thursday saw the water returning to the murky green again :-(((

We started on the 9 mile for just a couple of codling so we moved out to 3 wrecks 18 - 20 mile off and managed around 20 or so fish ( not good for the distance )

We decided to drop back into the 9 mile for the ebb tide and the water had cleared a little from the morning. The lads had another dozen fish on the shad there.

All in all an enjoyable day with some lovely weather too.

The lads are pictured with a few of their fish.

17 May 2013 by Bob Marshall

    Report on-board Duke IV

Superb Skate fishing off Ramsgate at the moment!
If you have never caught a Skate or want some great light line sport, now is the time to come down here. Heindrics Belgium fichting team are enjoying great sport aboard Duke IV for the week with Skate to l3 lb 8oz along with lots of Skate, Smoothounds, Spurdog, Tope & Dabs etc.
Still good Cod & Pollack to be had from the wrecks when the weather allows us to get there.
Inshore Bass fishing remains patchy, maybe the cold weather holding them back but we look set for a few months of good fishing ahead. Still some weekend and plenty of weekday slots available so if its your first time or your experienced give me a call and come fishing aboard Duke IV for the best service around.
Pic shows Belgium fichting team with some of todays Skate.
